29b. AlmasFS — your data as a folder

AlmasFS lets you mount your ALMAS tenant as a folder on your computer. After mounting, your projects, lawsuits, invoices, files, and notes appear as folders and files in Windows Explorer / macOS Finder / Linux file managers — just like any local folder. Drag-drop a file into a project to upload it. Open a note in your Favorite text editor. Save a Word document directly into the right project.

Step 1: Generate a token

  1. Click your avatar in the top-right → My profile → AlmasFS (under Security & access).
  2. Give your token a name (e.g. "Office laptop").
  3. Pick an expiry — 90 days is a good default for casual use.
  4. Click Generate. Copy the token immediately — it's only shown once.

⚠️ Treat the token like a password. Anyone who has it can read and write your AlmasFS data until you revoke it.

Step 2: Mount the drive

Pick your platform on the AlmasFS Help page — it shows the exact net use (Windows), Cmd+K URL (macOS), or mount.davfs2 line (Linux) for your account. Your username is your email; your password is the token from Step 1.

What you can do on the mount

  • Open any file in its native app. Right-click → Open in Excel, double-click in Finder, drag to a different application.
  • Drag-drop new files in. Drop a PDF onto Z:\projects\Acme — Phase II\Files\ and it uploads to the project, with the upload showing up in the regular ALMAS UI's Files tab.
  • Rename a project by pressing F2 on its folder. The new name appears across ALMAS.
  • Delete (soft) by pressing Del. Restorable from the bin until permanent cleanup.
  • Edit notes in Notepad / TextEdit / Vim. Save, and the note in the Notes tab updates.
  • Save Word documents directly. Word's "lock the file while editing" flow works — others see a "file in use" message until you close it.

Managing your tokens

The AlmasFS Access page lists every token you've created:

  • Name — the label you gave it
  • Created — when you generated it
  • Last used — most recent mount that used it (so you can tell which devices are still mounted)
  • Expires — date this token stops working

Click Revoke to invalidate a token immediately — useful if a laptop with a mounted drive gets lost or stolen.

When to revoke

  • You lost a device that had AlmasFS mounted.
  • You stopped using a particular machine and want to clean up.
  • You're rotating credentials.

Revoking a token does not affect your account password or any other tokens — only the mount on devices using that specific token stops working.

Limitations

  • COPY is not supported yet. Copying a file between two projects via Explorer fails; download the file and re-upload it instead. (Tracked for a future release.)
  • Office's "Save As" between folders uses copy — same workaround.
  • Mac/Linux mounts persist across restarts; Windows requires re-mounting (or saving credentials in Credential Manager).
